Same issue as others - got a text from this number 2 minutes after posting an ad, asking me to email their husband. I suggest to avoid.

I’ve been asked to provide my pay pal for an item I’m selling on gumtree +1 (650) 262-4218. Text Message starts ‘hi mate’ but email is a Suzanne [email protected]. Stating that a transport company would collect. I smell a rat! Avoid! States in email that they are working as a ship steward at the burntwood in Staffordshire and that they are willing to pay the asking price. Very odd!

Usual Gumtree scammers. stay away from these people and don't even reply. They sent me a sms regarding an ad i have on gumtree and asked to email a Suzanne at [email protected].

Had this number text me asking to email his uncle about my dirt bike for sale on gumtree Said he working long hours and couldn’t inspect the bike but was “satisfied” in buying it Seemed very suspicious at first but after they asked for my bank details to transfer the money then have a shipping company pick it up I knew it was bullshit

Scam artist phishing for money...and a particularly stupid one at that. After bumping my Gumtree ad back onto the first page, they've messaged me a second time in two weeks about the same car I'm selling. This time it's supposedly a different person with a different email address...but they're contacting me from the same number...*smh*

Contacted me about my gumtree ad saying he’d like to buy it and could I email. Said he would pay by PayPal. He said he’d had throat surgery and was housebound and no easy access to pay by cash on collection of my item. Said he would send his “agent” to collect it. Grammar and English was pretty poor I have to say! Anyway, I didn’t reply after the 2nd request for me to set up PayPal and provide my details. I thought it was very suspicious especially given I’m in the UK and the number is American!

This is so dangerous! I thought it was suspicious when they texted me on that number which isn’t from the UK and asked me to email them on their gmail address. They wanted to buy my bird and transfer the money through PayPal. They said they couldn’t talk because they had throat surgery and would send their agent to pick up the bird. Super dodgy, thank god I googled this number before replying further

I got a text from this number "Is your listed mobility scooter on gumtree still available for sale? Email me at [email protected] ASAP" I replied asking them to phone me to arrange to view and never heard back. It appears this is a Gumtree scam. Sellers beware. Number blocked.

Similar story here...wanted to buy my car off Gumtree without even inspecting it. Seemed a little suspicious at first but I emailed back and after asking a few questions about the car, they claimed they'd transferred payment but Paypal wouldn't complete the transfer until I'd paid a "shipping company" $1200. Haha, yeah right. I reported them to Paypal and the bank they wanted me to transfer the money into, and according to the prefix it's some a***hole in California.

I had the same as the first person, wanted to buy without seeing and wanted banking details ect, said they had a condition where they can not see in person or speak on the phone, that’s what raised the red flags, I told them I will be forwarding to police

Similar experience. Within minutes of posting the ad on gumtree, contacted us and wanted to pay for the item without even seeing it. Would send the couriers to collect. We stalled for about 15 hours, then when we emailed again the address is non-existent - [email protected]
